Environment

It is never to early to teach your children

how to Reduce-Reuse-Recycle

Teaching your children about caring for the environment can be fun. You can start by introducing concepts such as Reduce-Reuse-Recycle.

Reduce:  Take every small opportunity to teach your children about why it is important to reduce the amount of waste in your home. Waste comes from unused materials, such as waste of food, waste of toilet paper, waste of water, etc. Teach your children by example to consume/use what they really need. Remember that Reduce isn’t just about your Waste, it also refers to the amount of natural resources that you Use every day.

Reuse: Clothes, toys, DVDs, books, and many other items in your house that you no longer use/need can be used by other people. If these items are in good condition (SNAZZY) you should consider donation, consignment, selling, or swapping. You can create a “Fun Cleaning Day” with your family to get rid of the stuff you do not need anymore.  Also you can reuse things by transforming the materials into a new useful item.

Recycle:  Trying to keep it simple. Check first what are the different recycle options that you have in your community. Some cities/towns have community recycling drop-off containers or centers. You can start your own recycling space at your home with your children’s help. Recyclable materials include many kinds of glass, paper, metal, plastics, electronics, waste oil, etc….

Have fun teaching these concepts and use your creativity to help our environment. The activities and the interest in the environment that you share with your children will impact them for a lifetime.

Why Reusing Clothes is Important

The Numbers

Children grow out of clothes every 3-6 months.  Many outfits are only worn a handful of times.

On average, parents spend more than $20,000 on kids clothing by the time their child is 17.

Americans spend approximately $22 billion every year on toys and games for their children.

The average American discards 68 pounds of clothing a year, wasting energy, water and landfill space

Reuse clothes and toys can be accomplished through many different methods: buying and selling in the used marketplace, borrowing, renting, and making or receiving charitable transfers.

By using our Snazzy Swap service, you make a small positive contribution to preserve our environment that will add up. Be part of our community and exchange with other families your children’s precious goodies!
